We are excited to welcome Dr. Gebreyesus to Denver Eye Surgeons. Specializing in glaucoma and cataract care, Dr. Gebreyesus brings advanced surgical expertise, compassionate patient care, and a strong commitment to preserving vision through early detection and innovative treatment options.
As a comprehensive ophthalmologist, Dr. Gebreyesus focuses on the medical and surgical management of two of the leading causes of vision loss in the United States: glaucoma and cataracts. Her passion for ophthalmology began with an early interest in the physics and physiology of vision and continued to grow through medical school research and clinical volunteer work.
After serving as Chief Resident during her residency training in Washington, D.C., Dr. Gebreyesus completed advanced glaucoma training in Colorado. Throughout her career, she has advocated for the use of advanced ophthalmic technology and personalized treatment plans to help patients protect and preserve their vision.
Dr. Gebreyesus is especially passionate about the importance of early glaucoma detection. Because glaucoma can cause permanent optic nerve damage and vision loss, routine medical eye exams are critical, particularly for individuals with a family history of glaucoma.
“Getting a baseline medical eye exam can reveal eye conditions long before symptoms develop,” says Dr. Gebreyesus. “Early detection and treatment can significantly reduce the risk of vision loss from glaucoma.”
Dr. Gebreyesus believes patient education is one of the most important parts of eye care. She takes a patient-centered approach, ensuring every patient understands their diagnosis, treatment options, and long-term eye health goals.
As a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, Dr. Gebreyesus remains deeply committed to compassionate, relationship-centered care and creating a positive experience for every patient she treats.
